AcuCort AB: AcuCort study on patient preferences published in peer-reviewed scientific journal

2026-08-26 08:20:00

AcuCort's study on patients' preferences for Zeqmelit® compared with conventional tablets has been published in the peer-reviewed scientific journal Journal of Market Access & Health Policy. The study builds on findings from AcuCort's previously published clinical study and a survey study, and shows that patients' preference for the orally disintegrating film remains strong when patient characteristics, medical history, and experience with the treatment options are taken into account.

The two complementary studies investigate patients' preferences for an orally disintegrating film compared with conventional betamethasone tablets for the treatment of moderate to severe acute allergic reactions.

The first study, ZEQ001, was conducted in a real-world clinical setting over a six-month period. Patients had access to both Zeqmelit® and the betamethasone tablets they had previously been prescribed. Among other findings, the study showed that patients perceived Zeqmelit® as more convenient and providing a greater sense of security, and that they were more likely to carry the oral film with them. After six months, 69 per cent of patients preferred Zeqmelit®, compared with 3 per cent who preferred tablets, while 28 per cent had no preference.

The analysis in the second study shows that patients' preferences are influenced by their individual characteristics, medical history, and their knowledge of and experience with the treatment options. The study used data from both ZEQ001 and a previously conducted survey study. In the survey study, participants were provided with a description of the oral film but had no personal experience of using it.

The results show that the preference for the orally disintegrating film was strong across all contexts analysed and in both study populations. The results also suggest that the preference may be particularly strong among patients with a medical history indicating a greater need to be prepared for acute treatment situations.

- Once again, the study confirms the significant medical need for an effective and easily accessible treatment. It also shows how highly patients value being able to carry their medication with them at all times and being able to administer it easily when needed. Overall, patients experience a greater sense of security with the oral film, which is important for their treatment," says Jonas Jönmark, CEO of AcuCort.

The scientific article has been published in Journal of Market Access & Health Policy following peer review and is entitled Treatment Preferences in Acute Allergic Reactions-How Can the Context Impact the Preference for a Corticosteroid Mouth Film Versus Conventional Tablets?
