Peab builds homes in Visby

Peab has been working on the demolition and reconstruction of the Riggen Block in Gråbo in southern Visby since the autumn of 2024. Now that the zoning plan for the third phase has been approved, the project can proceed with an additional 40 homes. It entails building six rows of terraced houses with homes that have four rooms and a kitchen. The living space of each home will be just under 100 m2.

When the project is completed Riggen will consist of 140 modern rental apartments and a residential care home. The first stages, containing a total of 100 apartments, are nearing completion and the first tenants will move in during the autumn of 2026.

"We're proud to continue our collaboration with Gotlandshem and complete the reconstruction of Riggen. This project is important for both Visby and Gotland's housing, and we look forward to creating even more attractive homes in the area," says Fredrik Granström Leo, Region Manager Peab.

Riggen is a residential area where the original houses from the 1970s are being replaced with energy-efficient homes adapted to current requirements. The project maintains the area's environment and greenery while developing new meeting places and common areas.

"We're really pleased that the building permit has been approved. For the project this means that we can start up stage three as a continuation of an uninterrupted flow with the already ongoing stages," says Jonas Hammarlund, Project Manager at Gotlandshem Fastighetsutveckling.

The project is a turnkey contract. Work on the new homes will start in the fourth quarter of this year and they are expected to be ready for occupancy in 2029.

The project will be order registered in business area Construction in the third quarter 2026.
