The Board of Directors proposes to the Annual General Meeting 2024 that no dividend for the financial year 2023 is to be paid. The Company is in the process of assessing the capital requirements across its asset portfolio and is also conducting a strategic review of the composition of the Group’s portfolio of oil and gas assets. Upon conclusion of the assessment of capital requirements and the strategic review, the Board aims to revisit the matter of shareholder distributions.
The parent company has distributable earnings (unrestricted equity) of MSEK 869.0 on 31 December 2023. As per 31 December 2023, the Group’s and the parent company’s equity ratio amounted to 88.7 percent and 98.0 percent, respectively.
Despite the parent company’s and Group’s solid financial position there remain uncertainty regarding both the near- and long-term capital requirements relating to the development of the Company’s portfolio of oil and gas assets, and until such time that these are fully understood the Board of Directors cannot confidently assess the Company’s ability to pay a dividend for the year 2023.
In parallel, the Group is conducting a strategic review of its portfolio of oil and gas assets with the aim of rebalancing the asset mix and increasing the visibility of the assets fair market value.
Upon conclusion of the assessment of capital requirements and the strategic review the Board aims to revisit the matter of shareholder distributions.
Tethys Oil’s Annual General Meeting 2024 is to be held in Stockholm on 15 May 2024.
Tethys Oil’s share of the production, before government take, from Blocks 3&4 onshore the Sultanate of Oman, in February 2024 amounted to 219,154 barrels of oil, corresponding to 7,557 barrels of oil per day.
As previously communicated, the February production was negatively impacted by an eleven-day planned maintenance of the Saiwan production facility. Adjusted for the production stoppage, the average production was 8,429 barrels of oil per day.
The Official Selling Price (OSP) for Oman Export Blend Crude Oil for the month of February 2024 was USD 77.21 per barrel. The OSP, as published by Sultanate of Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals, is the benchmark price for Tethys Oil’s monthly oil sales excluding trading and quality adjustments.
Tethys Oil AB, through its wholly owned subsidiary Tethys Oil Block 3 & 4 Ltd, has a 30 percent interest in Blocks 3&4. Partners are Mitsui E&P Middle East B.V. with 20 percent and the operator CC Energy Development S.A.L. (Oman branch) holding the remaining 50 percent.

Letter to shareholders
Dear Friends and Investors,
The year and the quarter ended on a stabilizing and promising note; however, the overall outcome of 2023 could have been better.
Production from Blocks 3&4 stabilised during the 4th quarter at nearly 8,400 bopd giving an overall average of close to 8,800 bopd for the year. We have invested significantly in the Blocks in 2023, not only to make up for the lost time and lower investment during the pandemic years 2020-2021 but also as an affirmation of our long-term belief in the potential in the Blocks. Two such notable long-term investments are the 3D seismic acquisition and Gas-to-Power project.
The Gas-to-Power project aims to reduce routine flaring of the associated gas produced on Blocks 3&4. Instead, the gas will be used as a power source to generate electricity for the production facilities and downhole pumps in the field. This will remove the need for the use of diesel generators which today make up a substantial part of the field’s emissions. The project is a major milestone in improving Tethys Oil’s environmental footprint and a significant investment. To date the company has invested more than MUSD 15 and expects to invest a further MUSD 10 before the end of 2024. A substantial part of these investments is expected to be recouped through lower operating expenses – which we expect to realise towards the second half of 2024.
The major seismic campaign to cover the entire central part of Blocks 3&4 that has been ongoing for several years will be completed in 2024. A significant investment of MUSD 6 in 2024 (MUSD 11.6 in 2023) that we expect will bear fruit in the coming year’s exploration activities. With these major projects completed the operator projects both lower operating and capital expenditures in the years beyond 2024.
We have yet to see the effects of the investments on the reserves and production on Blocks 3&4, but we feel confident that this will soon be the case. In the near term, however, the book value of Oil and gas properties has grown to a level which is not yet reflected in its current performance, and we have thus made an impairment test resulting in an impairment. After the impairment the carrying value of the asset is still an impressive MUSD 190, in line with its historical level and significantly above our current market capitalisation. This value is no less impressive given that the value does not reflect the many upsides which we expect the coming year’s exploration and appraisal activities will unlock, not least with the latest state-of-the-art 3D seismic in our possession. Let’s not forget that Blocks 3&4 is an asset that has confounded sceptics many times in the past with its hidden treasures.
On Block 58 we are fast approaching the moment of truth with the drilling of the first exploration well in the Fahd area, Kunooz-1, expected to commence before the end of the first quarter.
Our operations on Block 56 have seen continuous activity in the past year with the Extended Well Test proving the productive capacity of the Al Jumd discovery, producing over 60,000 barrels gross, 332 bopd from only two wells. The quest to turn the Eastern Flank trend into our next producing field continued at the end of the fourth quarter with a return to Sarha-3 for a workover and the drilling of the Menna-1 exploration well further south in the trend. Both wells have encountered hydrocarbons across multiple zones and we are looking forward to testing which will commence imminently.
The upcoming test results from Menna-1 and Saraha-3 will be important data points for the field development plan for Block 56 which is currently in progress. A number of important key metrics are being established such as production potential, the reserve and resource base, as well as an assessment of the overall prospectivity of the Block.
Our asset portfolio remains highly promising and with many moving parts. The level of activity is such that our board of directors has elected to defer the decision on shareholder distribution for now and decided to review our asset portfolio composition to make sure we are optimised to deliver on our best opportunities. These are exciting times if also somewhat trying.
So, bear with us, and stay with us. 2024 promises to either be flat or the vigorous start of a new growth phase, led by the commercialisation of Block 56 and of course if the Fahd exploration well on Block 58 is a success…

]]>Tethys Oil is pleased to announce the Company’s financial guidance for 2024:
Production
Tethys Oil expects full year 2024 average production on Blocks 3&4, Sultanate of Oman, to be in the range of 8,200 ± 400 barrels of oil per day. February production is expected to be lower than January production levels due to planned maintenance of the Saiwan East production facility for a period of nine days.
Operating expenditures
Tethys Oil expects the average operating expenditure to be approximately USD 17.5 per barrel for the full year 2024. Due to increased costs related to the ramp up of the Gas-to-Power project, opex is expected to be above the full year average of 17.5 barrel during the first half of 2024 and to decline to a level below the full year average in the second half of the year.
Administrative expenses
Tethys Oil expects the administrative expenses for the full year 2024 to be in the range of MUSD 6-8.
Investments
Tethys Oil’s investment in oil and gas properties in 2024 is expected to be in the range of MUSD 90-94.
Tethys Oil’s investments on Blocks 3&4 are expected to be in the range of MUSD 63-67 (MUSD 75.2 in 2023). During the year, MUSD 26.1 is expected to be spent on drilling (33.7), MUSD 6.3 on seismic acquisition (11.6) and MUSD 9.5 on the Gas-to-Power project (4.0).
2024 spending on Block 49 is expected to be MUSD 0.5 (0.5).
On Block 56, Tethys Oil’s 2024 investments are expected to amount to MUSD 8.0 (3.7). This relates mainly to the drilling of the exploration well in the central area which was delayed from 2023 and does not include any potential development expenditure.
On Block 58, Tethys Oil’s 2024 investments are expected to amount to MUSD 18.5 (2.2). The investments include the drilling of two exploration wells.
Tethys Oil’s investments in Oil and gas properties is expected to be funded by a combination of cash flow, cash on hand and external debt.
Tethys Oil offentliggör finansiell guidning för 2024:
Produktion

Based on the preliminary results of an impairment test of the oil and gas properties and evaluation of exploration activities relating to Tethys Oil’s interest in Blocks 3&4 in the Sultanate of Oman, the company expects to recognise a non-cash impairment charge of MUSD 37-47 and exploration costs of MUSD 6.3 in its income statement for the fourth quarter 2023.
As a consequence of the 2023 exploration and development investments not yielding the expected production output and reserve additions, Tethys Oil has performed an impairment test of the interest in Blocks 3&4 using updated internal estimates of reserves and resources ahead of the finalisation of the reserve evaluation. The impairment test has taken into account future production and expenditure estimates as well as updated oil price forecasts and cost of capital assumptions. This has resulted in an expected impairment charge of MUSD 37-47, which will have a non-cash effect on the results for the fourth quarter of 2023. The remaining book value of oil and gas properties related to Blocks 3&4 as of 31 December 2023 is expected to be MUSD 180-190. The impairment charge and exploration costs are not expected to affect Tethys Oil’s general operations or organisation.
Additionally, Tethys Oil expects to recognise exploration costs of MUSD 6.3 in the fourth quarter relating to previously capitalised exploration expenditures. The exploration costs relate to four exploration wells drilled on Blocks 3&4 in 2023 which have not resulted in a commercial discovery. In total, the exploration costs and the impairment charge are expected to have a combined negative non-cash effect on profit for the fourth quarter 2023 of MUSD 43-53.
Tethys Oil expects reserve additions and revisions to be positive in 2023 but not to the extent that it will fully offset the full year production of 3.2 million barrels of oil. As such, the total proven and probable reserves (2P) are expected to be lower as of 31 December 2023 than on 31 December 2022, the effective date for the previous reserves and resources evaluation report.
All figures relating to 2023 in this press release are preliminary and unaudited. Tethys Oil’s fourth quarter and year-end report 2023, including guidance for 2024 and an executive summary of the full reserves and resources evaluation report for Blocks 3&4 will be published on 6 February 2024, at approximately 07:30 CET.
“We are pleased to note that the production on Blocks 3&4 seem to have stabilised over the past couple of months. However, looking back on the full year 2023, we are not happy about the general development and the return on investments made. This development is reflected in the impairment charge to our oil and gas properties. We are, however, still in possession of significant oil reserves and resources on Blocks 3&4, so together with the partner group we will continue working hard on increasing the profitability of the blocks in 2024”, says Magnus Nordin, Managing Director of Tethys Oil.
Tethys Oil’s share of production from Blocks 3&4 during the fourth quarter 2023, before government take, amounted to 772,515 barrels of oil, corresponding to 8,397 barrels of oil per day. Tethys Oil is increasing its operational activities on Block 56 onshore Oman. The drilling of the exploration well Menna-1 has been completed. The well logs indicate hydrocarbons in three separate zones and preparations for the testing operations are ongoing. Testing operations will also resume on the previously drilled Sarha-3 well, on which a workover has been completed. Both operations are an important part in the continued data compilation and preparation of a field development plan for Block 56.
The Menna-1 well was drilled vertically to a total depth of approximately 1,600 meters. The well logs indicate hydrocarbons in the Al Khlata, Karim and Birba formations. Further evaluation and testing of the well will be carried out in the coming weeks.
The Menna prospect is located some 30 kilometres south-west of the Al Jumd discovery, with which it shares similar characteristics. The prospect is one of several identified prospects on the Eastern Flank trend, stretching alongside the border of Block 6’s productive Karim Small Fields.
In parallel to the drilling of Menna-1, Tethys Oil has completed a workover of the Sarha-3 well in preparations for the testing of the well’s remaining zones, expected to be resumed in the coming weeks.
Sarha-3, drilled in 2022, is located on the Eastern Flank trend approximately seven kilometres to the north-east of Menna. The well had a final depth of 1,200 metres and targeted the Gharif, Al Khlata and Karim formations. The well logs indicated hydrocarbons in all targets. The initial testing included the Karim formation, from which limited oil flows to surface were recorded. The resumed testing operations will focus on establishing oil flows to surface from the remaining two zones, Al Khlata and Gharif.
The aim of the current activities on Block 56 is to gain a further understanding of the geological structures and the potential of the prospects and leads, as well as to establish the resource base of the Eastern Flank trend. In total, the trend currently has more than a dozen prospects and leads that have not yet matured into prospects. A full prospect and lead inventory is expected to be finalised in the first quarter of 2024.
Tethys Oil will use the collected data in the Company’s ongoing process to establish a field development plan for Block 56. The field development plan, once completed, will in turn serve as the basis for the commercialisation of the block.
“We are very pleased to have safely completed the exploration drilling on the Menna prospect and that the well encountered oil in all three zones. We are now focusing on the testing of Menna-1 and Sarha-3 and are looking forward with anticipation to share further news on the block’s development in the coming months”, says Magnus Nordin, Managing Director of Tethys Oil.
Tethys Oil’s share of the production, before government take, from Blocks 3&4 onshore the Sultanate of Oman, in November 2023 amounted to 250,827 barrels of oil, corresponding to 8,361 barrels of oil per day.
The Official Selling Price (OSP) for Oman Export Blend Crude Oil for the month of November 2023 was USD 92.77 per barrel. Letter to shareholders
Dear Friends and Investors,
To strike the right note when addressing the third quarter can be a bit of a challenge. The year is three quarters done so a lot of what will happen in the year has happened. But not enough to allow for a complete review and closing and the upcoming year is still too far off to warrant a full outlook. But there are always highlights and on those I will try to focus.
First, Blocks 3&4. Our non-operated 30% interest continues to offer the bulk of revenue and production. During the quarter we have seen Tethys’ share of production stabilizing above 8,000 bbl per day and opex per barrel come down compared to the second quarter. It is of course too early to say that the trend of lower production and rising costs have been broken, but it is certainly a step in that direction. The operator is indicating an increased focus on near-field appraisal and exploration opportunities for the upcoming months and the new appraisal program of the Lower Al Bashair reservoir, that once produced in the Farha field, is a promising activity in the fourth quarter. There are more details on the production stabilizing activities in the operations section but let us leave Blocks 3&4 on a slightly positive note.
However, dare I say, more important for the future are the activities in Block 56. The extended well test on the Al Jumd discovery was successfully concluded and close to 40,000 barrels sold during the quarter. Al Jumd has production potential and is a founding steppingstone towards the commercialization of Block 56.
The 3D seismic that we acquired last year has yielded unexpectedly good results in the so-called Eastern Flank area to the southwest of Al Jumd and a string of Al Jumd look-alikes are emerging. One of the largest of these, the Menna prospect, will be tested by the Menna-1 well in December. Shortly thereafter the Sarha-3 well that we drilled last year will be worked over and retested.
These activities will build on the Al Jumd foundation and combined with the overall prospectivity of the Eastern Flank will form the backbone of the field development plan that is in preparation. There is certainly still geological risk in Block 56 but there are so many opportunities that any early setback should be overcome by additional work.
Focus for the fourth quarter and for the field development plan will be on further evaluation and incorporating the Al Jumd production data into the plan, recalculate the Al Jumd resource base, test the Sarha-3 well and drill and test Menna. If these activities prove sufficiently successful, then a field development plan should take firmer shape during the first quarter.
We now have a further year to develop our plans after the license extension was granted and let me take this opportunity to extend our gratitude to the Ministry of Energy and Minerals for their support and encouragement.
Leaving the highlight scene let us not forget the ongoing preparation for retesting Thameen on Block 49 and the ever-growing prospective resource base on Block 58.
So stay with us, we are in for more growth activity than we have been for a long time and in mid-November a dividend of SEK 2.00 per share will be transferred to you, our shareholders
