ChromoGenics signs exclusivity agreement with Helmut Hachtel GmbH on distribution of the future of insulating glass (HeatMirror®) for Scandinavia.
HeatMirror® is a well-proven product in which intermediate glass in an insulating glass is replaced with a 0.05 mm thick PET film. This not only gives a better U-value (insulating capacity) and a lighter product, but also a significantly reduced CO2 footprint against the corresponding normal insulating glass pane.
When the market demands ever better U-values in glass, more and more layers have to be added and that is where a need for this type of product can be seen. The HeatMirror® technology fits well with our dynamic ConverLight® glass and can be combined with our Paragon® technology to Paragon®ECO, which combines to an innovative product with leading properties. The product is well suited as for renovations where the focus is on retained weight in glass construction and an increased U-value. HeatMirror® fits very well into ChromoGenic's quest to create climate-smart products for the future and gives us another opportunity to become the given partner to environmentally committed property owners.
Popular Science magazine named HeatMirror as "Top 100 Inventions of the Millennium".
In 2009, the Empire State Building replaced the existing 2 glass IGUs from 1991 with the HeatMirror 3-layer glass. This meant that the 6514 window frames could be retained, and the upgraded windows are expected to yield over US $ 400,000 in savings per year. The window upgrade was part of a major energy saving project that is expected to reduce energy use by 38 percent and save US $ 4.4 million per year in energy costs, reducing 105,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions over the next 15 years.
"Combining HeatMirror® technology with our ConverLight Paragon® solution provides a product that can be used to energy upgrade many existing properties with an insulator value in par with a wall while providing excellent sun protection and without having to change the facade construction. We see a clear need in the Scandinavian market for a product like ConverLight Paragon® ECO," says CEO Jerker Lundgren.
