Kungsleden is working together with partners such as ABB, Västerås municipality, Mälardalen University, Northvolt, Bombardier and ABB Industrigymnasium to develop Finnslätten into a high-tech research and development area under the working name Vision Finnslätten. In order to achieve this, a broader range of services and experiences are needed in the area. One step to meet this need is the Kungsleden Sports Centre, which is being built in the northern part of the area. Kungsleden has leased out 2,350 sq.m. which will be used by Friskis & Svettis, Västerås Boule Klubb and Korpen.
"The Kungsleden Sports Centre provides unique opportunities for different sports to come together under one roof in one in the most exciting development areas in Västerås, where new jobs and activities are emerging. Sport is an important part of well-being for people of all ages, and the Kungsleden Sports Centre will be a strong complement to other sports in Västerås," says Vicki Skure-Eriksson (C), chair of the Board of Sport, Leisure and Prevention at Västerås municipality.
The first part is approx. 3,000 sq.m. and is located in building 391 at Finnslätten. Kungsleden Sport Centre will initially include the non-profit exercise organisation Friskis & Svettis with about 800 sq.m, Västerås Boule club with about 650 sqm (eight pitches), a skateboard and parkour park covering about 890 sq.m and a sports hall with about 700 sq.m. Negotiations are also underway for the running of a café in the sports centre.
The sports hall will be used during the day by upper secondary schools for their sports lessons. Additionally, various sports clubs will rent the sports hall, mainly on evenings and at weekends.
"In our work with Vision Finnslätten we have conducted two major surveys among employees at Finnslätten. A survey on health and services, and one on travel habits. The health survey revealed that what was most sought after was indoor gym and exercise opportunities. So, it's great to now be able to offer the Kungsleden Sports Centre," says Mats Eriksson, Regional Manager Mälardalen at Kungsleden.
First to open will be Friskis & Svettis on January 9, 2020, the sports hall will open on March 1, and the boule club and skatepark will open on September 1.[image]
