Organizational changes at Arion Bank – Birna Hlín Káradóttir becomes Chief Operating Officer

Arion Bank is introducing a new organizational chart which comes into effect today. A new division, Operations and Culture, has been created and it will take over a range of projects which were previously the responsibility of other divisions. The new division will also include a new transformation team. The changes are designed to foster closer collaboration between support units, bring greater efficiency to operations, manage transformation projects more effectively, and bring a clearer focus on service and customer experience. The division will also play a key role in the continued development and shaping of Arion Bank’s corporate culture. Operations and Culture will incorporate human resources, back office, operations management, transformation and legal services.
Birna Hlín Káradóttir, who has been General Counsel at Arion Bank since 2019, will take up the role of Chief Operating Officer. The creation of this new division does not require any changes to be made to the executive committee of Arion Bank as Birna Hlín has been a member of this committee since 2020.
Birna Hlín has extensive experience of the financial market and held the positions of general counsel at Fossar Markets, Straumur Investment Bank and Straumur-Burðarás, as well as Arion Bank. She has taught financial market law at Reykjavík University and the University of Iceland, and has served on the boards of directors of several companies and organizations in Iceland and abroad. Birna Hlín has completed an Advanced Management Program at IESE Business School Barcelona and has a Cand. Jur. degree from the University of Iceland. She is a district court attorney and is a licensed securities broker.
