Ernströmgruppen has acquired 75% of the shares in Tubman AB, which supplies niche and specialty products in the water and plumbing sector for the Nordic market. The company is a leading distributor of ductile iron pipe systems to the Swedish water and sewage market, with a turnover of 163 million in 2022 SEK, and will be part of the Water & Energy business area.
Tubman, a family-owned business in its second generation, is based in Stockholm with sales throughout the Nordic region. The current owners will remain as minority shareholders, and all employees will continue to work in the company.
Access to clean water and sustainable water management is one of the UN's sustainability goals. Sweden has good access to water, but improving water quality and more efficient water management are crucial to achieving the goal of clean water for all. Currently, at least 20 percent of all treated water is lost due to leakage. Replacing older water pipes is an important step in conserving the Earth's resources of clean drinking water. Tubman is the exclusive distributor of ductile iron pipes from the French company PAM in the Swedish water and sewage market. Ductile iron pipes have a lifespan of up to 150 years and are 100% recyclable.
Tubman fits well with Ernströmgruppen's strategic focus on further developing Water & Energy as an independent and sustainable business area. The acquisition represents another step in expanding the business area's offerings in plumbing while also adding a new dimension to the water and sewage sector, which is strategically important with long-term market potential.
"Sweden faces a significant need for infrastructure renewal in the water sector in the future. With Tubman's ductile iron pipes, we see that we are well-positioned as investments in infrastructure are expected to increase. Tubman also has several products in plumbing that are essential for all plumbers and align well with our other companies within the business area. Through this acquisition, we strengthen our collaboration with plumbers in the Nordic region," says Kjell Bernt Kalland, Business Area Manager for Water & Energy at Ernströmgruppen.
"We are pleased to join Ernströmgruppen and look forward to benefiting from the advantages that a larger corporation can offer, especially in terms of networking with entrepreneurs in our industry, which we believe will help further develop Tubman. As sellers of a family-owned business, it also feels good that Ernströmgruppen will take over as the new majority owner, a family-owned long-term owner who shares our core values in business and sustainability," says Elinor Stenberg, CEO and co-owner of Tubman AB.
