Cluj-Napoca, 23 April 2025 – Envipco Holding N.V. (“Envipco” or “the Company”), a leading global provider of recycling systems and Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) technology, has today officially inaugurated its Engineering Center of Excellence in Romania during a dedicated event held at Liberty Technology Park in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. This new engineering center further expands the company’s global network of research and development (R&D) facilities in the United States and Germany and reinforces Romania’s emerging role as a hub for innovation in recycling and the circular economy.
The inauguration event was attended by members of Envipco’s global executive management team, government and local officials, representatives from RetuRO, industry partners, and media representatives.
Driving Local Innovation with Global Reach
The Cluj-Napoca facility will serve as a strategic R&D hub to support the rapid deployment and scaling of Deposit Return Systems (DRS) across Europe. Romanian engineers will play a vital role in designing, testing, and optimizing the technologies behind Envipco’s RVMs which enable the automated collection of recyclable beverage packaging materials. Further, the facility will serve as an IT hub for internal and external services including online service management and analytics.
"We invest in Romania because here we find talent, vision and extraordinary energy for change. The Engineering Center of Excellence in Cluj reflects our commitment to innovate with local communities to build a sustainable future in Europe and beyond," said Bogdan Purcherea, Managing Director Envipco Romania and BD Director Europe.
"What we are building here is not just an R&D center, but a platform for co-creation between our teams in Europe and the United States. Romania plays a crucial role in the future of smart recycling," added Simon Bolton, Group CEO.
"The technologies developed in Cluj will support the transition to circular models in global markets. This is an important step in democratizing recycling through innovation," added Andrew Keene, CTO Envipco.
Romania as a Strategic Pillar in Envipco’s Global Vision
Envipco’s position is unique with both production facilities and an Engineering Center of Excellence in Romania. This dual investment underscores Romania’s critical importance in Envipco’s European strategy and reaffirms the company’s long-term commitment to supporting the growth of a modern circular economy in the region and beyond.
The Cluj-Napoca Engineering Center of Excellence is expected to accelerate the technological adaptation of Envipco’s solutions across key European markets, countries currently advancing their implementation of DRS.
