— New market and focus on materials research in orthopedic applications

Nasdaq First North-listed Freemelt – whose pioneering solutions create new conditions for rapid growth and development in 3D printing – has received an order for a Freemelt ONE system from the University of Maribor. The system, which is the first to the Slovenian market, will be used for research on materials for orthopedic implants and will be delivered in the third quarter of 2022.

Freemelt's protected technology takes 3D printing to a new level and makes it possible to print products more cost-effectively and in new materials that were previously not possible to produce. The Freemelt ONE 3D printer and PixelMelt software are both optimized for materials research with the aim of faster introduction of new materials and products in industrial applications.

“We want to experiment with in situ alloys and functionally graded microstructures of metal alloys. Our work with E-PBF will be focused mainly on medical applications of biocompatible and biodegradable metals, such as Tantalum, Titanium and Magnesium alloys,” says Igor Drstvensek, Professor of Additive Manufacturing.

The system is the first to a customer in Slovenia and will contribute to the development of knowledge in the field of orthopedic materials. In the long run, this means faster adoption of technology by manufacturers in the field, which will facilitate the introduction of Freemelt's upcoming industrial system that is being developed with a focus on this market.

"The order demonstrates the strength of our strategy with materials research equipment that enables and develops future industrial applications. The fact that the system will be used for materials research in orthopedic applications is also fully in line with our strategy around the commercial areas that we focus on with the upcoming production system," says Ulric Ljungblad, CEO of Freemelt.
