Instalco’s Board of Directors and management team has decided on, and is now publishing, new long-term climate goals. Instalco also initiates measurement and reporting of green-house gas emissions and climate impact in Scope 1, 2 and 3, as per the GHG Protocol.
Publication of climate goals in 2024 is in accordance with what was previously promised in Instalco’s Annual Report for 2023.
Here are Instalco’s Climate Goals:
- Long-term: Net zero greenhouse gas emissions in the entire value chain by 2045
- Medium-term: Decrease the emissions intensity of greenhouse gas emissions in Scope 1 and 2 by 50 percent by 2030, with 2020 as the base year of comparison.
Instalco will also be signing and supporting the industry’s shared roadmap called, “Roadmap for Fossil-Free Competitiveness in the Construction and Civil Engineering Sector”. Instalco’s climate goals are based on the industry’s roadmap and they are aligned with the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global temperature increase to 1.5 C.
As of 2025, Instalco will be both measuring and reporting greenhouse gases and other ESG data in accordance with the EU’s CSRD Directive, which is now also Swedish law.
“During 2024, we have been working intensely to prepare ourselves for adaption to CSRD. It is also going to make our customer offering more attractive, since energy efficiency and lower resource consumption are at the very core of the services we offer. We have also noticed that our customers and investors are increasingly asking about measurement of greenhouse gases and reporting of ESG data, which we will now be able to do,” says Robin Boheman, CEO of Instalco.
Instalco intends to still keep measuring and reporting on the prior 10 sustainability goals that it has specified. However, they will be reclassified as supporting, short-term sustainability KPIs.
Starting point for the reduction goal
In order to establish a base year and follow up on the new climate goals, Instalco has, for the 2020 financial year, calculated its climate impact as per the GHG Protocol for Scope 1 and 2, with the goal of, over time, expanding to Scope 3. The measurement covers a representative selection of 42 subsidiaries, corresponding to 33% of Instalco’s sales during the year. This was then extrapolated to arrive at an estimated total climate impact for the entire Group. In making that selection, consideration was given to size, country and discipline.
Instalco’s climate impact 2020 (Scope 1 and 2, market-based)
- 7,844 tons CO2e2, corresponding to an emissions intensity of 1.10 tons CO2e/SEK million.
These values are in line with other major players in the industry. Corresponding calculations for the years 2021 - 2024 will be presented in Instalco’s Annual Report and Sustainability Report for 2024.
