Following the ruling from the Land and Environment Court of Appeal, several appeals have been submitted by different parties. We are now awaiting a decision from the Supreme Court on whether leave to appeal will be granted. Our long-term goal remains unchanged – to conduct sustainable mining operations in the Tornedalen region.
We are aware that a number of stakeholders have chosen to appeal the decision from the Land and Environment Court of Appeal regarding our environmental permit. The case is now with the Supreme Court, which will determine whether it will be taken up for review.
– We have great respect for the fact that there are different perspectives on the issues at hand, and we are committed to maintaining an open and factual dialogue. It is now up to the Supreme Court to decide whether the matter will proceed, says Hans Djurberg, Head of Sustainability at Kaunis Iron.
The new environmental permit is valid for 35 years and represents a crucial step toward long-term mining operations in Tornedalen. Until the ruling becomes legally binding, there will remain challenges in terms of planning conditions. However, we remain confident that the permit provides a solid foundation for the future.
With a long-term strategy, rich mineral resources, and strong local engagement, we continue working to support regional development and to meet Europe’s growing demand for sustainably and domestically produced iron ore.
