Lamor Corporation Plc | Press Release | July 24, 2025 at 10:00:00 EEST
In July, a Product Verification Test for twenty Lamor weir skimmers, ordered by Public Services and Procurement Canada on behalf of the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) in 2024, was completed in Porvoo, Finland.
A Product Verification Test (PVT) is a final quality assurance step where a product is tested under real-world conditions to confirm it meets design specifications and performance standards before mass production or release. It ensures the product is ready for customer use. This time, the customer followed the testing from Canada virtually.
The Canadian Coast Guard is responsible for ensuring an appropriate response to ship-source and mystery-source pollution incidents in Canadian waters. This constitutes a major component of the overall marine pollution response capacity in Canada. Lamor’s oil spill response equipment enables CCG to minimise the environmental, socio-economic, and public safety impacts of marine pollution incidents.
For decades, Lamor weir skimmers have been used in oil spills around the world due to their high recovery capacity in all operating conditions, including arctic environments. Free-floating weir skimmers consist of three float arms and a hopper, into which a brush-wheel oil recovery module will be fitted together with a submersible pump. The system will separate oil from the water and pump it to an adjacent storage unit.
“We are happy to support Canadian Coast Guard’s vision ‘To minimize the public safety, environmental and economic impacts of marine pollution incidents occurring in Canadian waters.’ It is aligned with our vision for the cleaner world”, says Dan Beyer, General Manager of Lamor USA.
“In 2020ies, as part of Canada's Oceans Protection Plan, we have supplied them with several Arctic Skimming Systems for their Icebreakers as well as several of our Offshore Skimming Systems, and over two-hundred Floating Towable Oil Storage Tanks. These twenty containerized weir skimmer systems can also be used on their icebreakers and other similar vessels within their fleet.”
The successfully completed tests are related to an order Lamor previously received in 2024, worth nearly EUR 3 million. The equipment will be delivered over a three-year period.
Lamor has decades of experience in innovation and know-how of oil spill response technology and prevention. Its equipment has proven reliable in some of the world’s harshest environments. Lamor’s technology and services help to protect sensitive sea areas and coasts from the negative effects of potential oil spill.
