LED iBond International A/S (LED iBond) has been awarded a grant of DKK 6.25 million from the Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Programme (EUDP), administered by the Danish Energy Agency. The funding supports a new development project aimed at significantly reducing energy consumption in greenhouses and vertical farming environments.

The project, HORTISABER – Intelligent Lighting and Control System for Greenhouses and Vertical Farms, builds on LED iBond’s existing lighting panel technology. The system will combine high-efficiency LED panels with sensors, real-time data processing, and cloud-based closed-loop control of the growing environment.

Key project targets include:

  • 71% energy savings compared to traditional HPS (High Pressure Sodium) lamps
  • 50% energy savings compared to LED iBond’s current HORTISABER system
  • Potential energy savings of 141,521 MWh/year in Denmark – equivalent to the electricity consumption of approximately 85,500 households

The global market for sustainable cultivation solutions is growing rapidly. LED iBond estimates the commercial potential of this project to be DKK 600 million by 2030, based on a 1% global market share.

“The EUDP grant is an important recognition of the relevance and scalability of our technology,” says Flemming Thomsen, Interim CEO of LED iBond. “It enables us to accelerate the development of next-generation intelligent lighting systems and deliver measurable climate impact through energy savings in horticulture.”

While the grant does not affect LED iBond’s short-term revenue outlook, management highlights its strategic importance. The funding primarily supports internal development activities such as salaries, prototyping, system integration, and demonstration testing while small investments are needed.

By accelerating an ongoing R&D process, the grant enables LED iBond to bring an enhanced, more energy-efficient horticultural lighting solution to market faster than originally planned. This may strengthen the company’s long-term competitiveness and revenue potential in the rapidly expanding sustainable agriculture sector.

The project is expected to kick off in Q3 2025.

It is management's assessment that the EUDP grant will not have a significant impact on the company's 2025 guidance.
