Successful completion of the third step in the qualification process at METHA has advanced MVW to the fourth and final step, as announced on July 14th, 2025. METHA is one of the leading facilities in the dredging industry, recognized for both its size and role in sustainable dredging management.

The planned paid long-term trial (minimum one month duration) is scheduled to start in Q4 2025. MVW will supply its natural NORWAFLOC® products for the dewatering of approximately 10,000 m3 of pre-thickened dredging sludge per month. This volume represents more than 1/3 of the current average volumes treated at METHA. The trial will be conducted using one of the plant’s two identical chamber filter presses. Based on previous successful full-scale trials, MVW estimates a consumption of around 15 tons of NORWAFLOC® per month for the long-term trial at a single chamber filter press.

Upon successful completion of the final upcoming paid long-term qualification run, and meeting both METHA’s and Hamburg Port Authorities’ expectations, MVW will be technically qualified for further commercial negotiations with METHA regarding long-term contracts.

METHA is a flagship in the dredging industry, recognized for both its size and its leading role in sustainable dredging management. The dewatering plant dewaters all dredging sludge from the continuous operations required to keep the port open for the approximately 12,000 ships that arrive in Hamburg each year. On average, METHA dewaters 300,000 tons of sludge annually, with the capacity to treat 1,000,000 tons. As part of Hamburg Port Authority, METHA is often referred to as "The washing machine of the Port of Hamburg."

MVW are very pleased that, through a small-scale verification and two short-term full-scale verifications at METHA, MVW has demonstrated stable performance and excellent technical results, enabling 100% substitution of incumbent synthetic polymers with our innovative, natural-based NORWAFLOC® at one of the largest dredging sludge dewatering plants in Europe. The good work of our team in close cooperation with the client, has now qualified us for the final stage," says Tor Olav Gabrielsen, Executive Chairman at MVW.
