Wavetrain Systems AS, a subsidiary of Nordic Technology Group AS (NTG), is pleased to announce that it has entered into an agreement with ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways) for the trial of its advanced acoustic‑based Level Crossing Warning System. The system will be used as part of a formal evaluation and approval process, supporting potential future deployment on the Austrian rail network. This agreement represents an important milestone in Wavetrain’s continued expansion across Europe.

Why This Matters
Improving safety at level crossings remains a key priority for European rail infrastructure owners. By initiating a trial with ÖBB, Wavetrain is entering a central European market with a large and diverse level‑crossing portfolio. The trial represents a low‑risk, high‑value opportunity to demonstrate performance under demanding operational conditions, strengthen Wavetrain’s European reference base, and support assessment of the solution’s suitability for broader deployment on the Austrian rail network. Successful validation will contribute to wider European cross‑acceptance, supporting Wavetrain’s continued expansion across Europe.

Technology and Innovation
The trial leverages Wavetrain’s latest AI and Machine Learning enhancements to its acoustic detection platform, validated through rigorous testing and CENELEC SIL2 certification. The solution is designed for rapid installation directly at the level crossing. With no moving parts, the system offers reduced lifecycle cost and reliable performance across varying traffic and environmental conditions. These capabilities build on experience gained from previous European trials and approval processes.

Executive Commentary
CEO of Wavetrain, Pål E. Bratlie, said:

“Working with ÖBB experts on this trial is an important step for Wavetrain. It reflects growing interest among leading European infrastructure owners in solutions that improve level crossing safety while remaining easy to deploy and operate in large scale. This initiative supports our continued expansion across Europe and reinforces our strategy of entering new markets through structured trials and close cooperation with customers.”
