Obducat has been granted 40% in investment support, equivalent to EUR 7.4 million, from the Portuguese authority IAPMEI to expand its foundry business (contract manufacturing based on NIL) in Portugal. The project, which is owned by the subsidiary Obducat Portugal, has a total budget of EUR 18.5 million and aims to build a new cleanroom and install advanced process equipment for the manufacture of components on behalf of customers, strengthening and expanding the production capacity of the company's foundry operations.
The investment support from IAPMEI is the maximum level that can be obtained for an individual project and will be possitble call off gradually as the investments are carried out. To ensure the necessary conditions for the implementation of the project, Obducat has started the process of applying for capital from the Portuguese development bank BPF and at the same time addresses strategic project investors in Portugal for co-investment together with BPF. The Board of Directors makes decisions on investment when the necessary conditions are secured.
The project targets a significant increase in capacity in the foundry business, at a level of to approximately 4-5 times of the current capacity level, and introduces new process capabilities that strengthen Obducat's offering and competitiveness. Obducat's foundry services also drives the industrialization of nanoimprint lithography (NIL) and makes available the company's built-up expertise in the field. The expansion meets both the increased needs of existing customers and the growing market demand in optics, photonics, biomedical and sensor technology.
"This investment support creates a unique platform to expand our foundry business, enabling larger customer projects and strengthens Obducat's position in the market. Receiving the maximum level of support is a clear proof of our credibility and strength," says Obducat's CEO Patrik Lundström.
