Ovzon has just completed an overland expedition to the High North, successfully validating the performance, mobility, and resiliency of the Ovzon 3 satellite and the Ovzon T6 and Ovzon T7 mobile satellite terminals in demanding conditions more than 480km (300 miles) inside the Arctic Circle.
In December 2024, Ovzon demonstrated the ability of the Ovzon 3 satellite’s On-Board-Processor to provide very low-latency, direct remote control of unmanned platforms 145km inside the Arctic Circle. The just-completed High North Expedition was an attempt to push the envelope and test Ovzon’s integrated satellite communication system all the way to the cliffs above the Barents Sea. The Ovzon team was joined by representatives of four NATO countries with an interest in the High North to observe and conduct independent testing of the performance of the Ovzon 3 satellite. The multi-day expedition entailed stops at each degree of latitude to collect test data for Ovzon’s mobile satellite terminals, the Ovzon T6 and the Ovzon T7. Testing was also conducted on the unique features that the OvzonOn-Board-Processor offers, included in the Ovzon Orion service.
"The Arctic is increasingly becoming key strategic terrain for NATO countries, but the extreme latitudes and climatic conditions present significant challenges for both GEO satellites and the small satellite terminals operating in those conditions. The Ovzon 3 satellite’s unmatched power, and the durability of the mobile satellite terminals Ovzon T6 and Ovzon T7, overcame those challenges and performed flawlessly throughout the expedition” said Tom Hopkins, the Expedition Leader and Ovzon’s Chief Operating Officer.
“We are delighted to have concluded such an important validation of our unique capabilities. The Ovzon 3 satellite is ready to deliver critical performance, mobility, and resiliency well into the Arctic, as well as to the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific. We already today deliver our SATCOM solutions in Europe, to meet the increasing security needs, in highly contested environments, from European countries and NATO,” said Per Norén, CEO of Ovzon.
