Paxman Announces Official Commercial Launch of First-of-Its-Kind Neuropathy System as Scientific Evidence Highlights Significant Unmet Need in Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN)

2026-11-04 14:30:00

Paxman today announces the official commercial launch of its groundbreaking cryocompression device, the Paxman Neuropathy System, marking its first major product expansion beyond scalp cooling and an important milestone in its evolution to Paxman Group. Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) remains one of the most significant unmet needs in cancer care, with no established standard preventive therapy despite its potential to cause long term symptoms, impact quality of life and lead to chemotherapy dose reductions, delays or discontinuation.

The announcement marks a significant strategic milestone in the company’s evolution. Founded on a mission to improve quality of life for people undergoing cancer treatment, Paxman has spent more than 25 years establishing itself as the global leader in scalp cooling, a position strengthened by the 2025 acquisition of Dignitana. With the addition of the Paxman Neuropathy System to the product portfolio, Paxman is expanding its focus beyond its pioneering expertise in scalp cooling to address additional treatment-related side effects that can have a lasting impact on patients’ lives, broadening its leadership in innovative side effect management technologies in oncology.

Before now there has been no established standard preventive therapy for chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), which is a common and potentially dose-limiting side effect of several chemotherapy agents. CIPN affects an estimated 30-90% of patients globally and an estimated 3 million cancer patients worldwide each year. It results from damage to peripheral nerves, most commonly affecting the hands and feet.

The innovative cryocompression technology harnessed in the Paxman Neuropathy has the potential to redefine what is possible in side effect management, addressing this significant unmet need in cancer care, helping to reduce the risk and severity of CIPN, and enabling more patients to remain on their prescribed treatment regimens.

Product commercialisation aligns with the publication today of data from the prospective, multicentre Phase I/II study, evaluating the Paxman Neuropathy System in JCO Oncology Advances. The study enrolled 150 patients across three sites in Singapore, with 146 patients evaluable for analysis and demonstrated that the device is safe, well tolerated and associated with low rates of CIPN in patients receiving taxane-based therapy.

CIPN severity was assessed using the National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (NCI CTCAE) grading scale, where Grade 2 neuropathy represents a clinically meaningful threshold at which symptoms begin to interfere with instrumental activities of daily living and may influence treatment decisions. No patients developed severe (Grade 3 or Grade 4) CIPN during the study. Patient-reported clinically significant sensory CIPN occurred in just 13.9% of patients at 12 weeks and 13.1% at 24 weeks, while only 5.7% of patients required chemotherapy dose modifications attributable to CIPN.

The findings support the potential of extremity cryocompression as a strategy for managing CIPN, a common and dose-limiting toxicity of taxane chemotherapy for which there is currently no established standard preventive therapy.

The launch of the Paxman Neuropathy system also aligns with the publication of a comprehensive review article ‘Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN): Disease mechanisms, experimental models and emerging prevention strategies’ in Therapeutic Advances in Medical Oncology. The article examines the biological mechanisms, clinical impact and emerging prevention strategies for CIPN. The review emphasises the importance of prioritising prevention over symptom management and highlights cryotherapy and cryocompression among the promising approaches currently being evaluated.

This data supports ongoing FDA regulatory submissions and is being further evaluated in the ongoing randomized SWOG S2205 ICE COMPRESS study in the United States, where a further clinical trial to evaluate the Paxman Neuropathy System is also underway at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

“For more than two decades, Paxman has been dedicated to reducing the impact of chemotherapy-induced hair loss.” explains Richard Paxman, CEO

“The launch of the Paxman Neuropathy System is a defining moment for our organisation and for patients around the world at risk of CIPN. Building on our established leadership in scalp cooling we are expanding into a significant area of unmet clinical need with a technology that has the potential to improve outcomes for patients while creating substantial opportunities for future growth.

The move to Paxman Group provides a corporate identity that better reflects the evolution of the company’s growing portfolio of innovative technologies to address treatment-related side effects, as well as our ongoing research and development programmes and commitment to innovation across side effect management in oncology. While scalp cooling remains our foundation and continues to represent a significant growth opportunity, we are focused on leveraging our established infrastructure, relationships and global distribution channels to expand our reach in oncology and cancer care.”

Last week's news of the first UK order for the Paxman Neuropathy System, which was received ahead of the official commercial launch, demonstrates strong early market interest and the strategic growth opportunity for Paxman.

Following the extension of its UK and EU regulatory certifications earlier this year, Paxman will commence the commercial rollout of the Neuropathy System across key European markets, including the UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Italy, where Paxman maintains a strong presence within the oncology sector. Multiple pilot programmes are currently underway in the UK, with additional sites scheduled to begin implementation across these additional markets soon.
