Terranet has certified its product BlincVision as a Class 1 Laser Product in accordance with the international standard IEC 60825-1. This means that the company’s anti-collision system, BlincVision, meets these requirements and can be used safely around drivers, passengers, and the surroundings.
In the automotive industry, there are strict requirements for how laser systems must be designed. They need to meet international standards and be independently tested before they can be used in vehicles. Similar requirements apply in other fields where laser technology is used, such as industry, defence, and agriculture. The aim is to protect people both inside and outside the vehicle, even during long-term exposure or unexpected situations. BlincVision’s eye safety certification demonstrates that the technology meets these requirements and is ready for the next step toward use in vehicles.
The certification also opens up new opportunities in product development. Since BlincVision is now classified as eye-safe, Terranet can conduct tests and collect data in real traffic environments without special permits. The collected data is used to develop and train the AI-generated model that analyzes movement patterns. This enables the model to be trained on a more diverse and realistic dataset, which in turn leads to better and more reliable performance.
“The certification is important since it is a prerequisite for enabling demonstrations of our MVP performance in the environment the system is intended to be used in. Having proof that we have been able to implement a range of fundamental improvements in our latest scanner generation without compromising safety is an important confirmation of our design concept,” says Pierre Ekwall, CTO at Terranet.
