USWE Sports AB today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has approved a patent covering the company’s Thermo Cell technology. This utility patent protects a specialized insulated system designed to prevent freezing of hydration hoses and bite valves in sub-zero environments.
The Thermo Cell system relies on an air-insulated pocket that maintains enough warmth around the hydration tube to reduce freezing risk. Field validation has demonstrated effective performance down to –26 °C (–15 °F), ensuring reliability in cold-weather use.
Key Patent Features
- Utility-patented insulated design, specifically engineered for cold-weather performance.
- Applicable across product lines, with integration planned in winter-specific hydration packs.
- Fortifies USWE’s IP defense, enhancing long-term product differentiation.
CEO Comments
“Securing this patent underscores USWE’s commitment to developing practical, IP-protected solutions with measurable performance benefits. Combined with our No Dancing Monkey Harness patent and IP portfolio, this puts us in a strong position to defend our innovations, expand globally, and create long-term value for our shareholders,” said Jacob Westerberg, CEO of USWE Sports AB.
Integration and Product Rollout
USWE will integrate Thermo Cell technology across upcoming iterations of its winter hydration packs, including the Nordic and the new VST Backpacks released at the Eurobike Tradeshow in June 2025. The company anticipates the new IP protections to strengthen its positioning in cold-weather outdoor markets.
