Valmet Automotive and Sisu Auto have signed a cooperation agreement covering the manufacturing of components and the final assembly of complete vehicles for SISU GT series at Valmet Automotive's Uusikaupunki plant in Finland.
This collaboration addresses Sisu Auto’s need for additional capacity to facilitate its growth, while aligning with Valmet Automotive’s strategic decision to expand into new industries, including the defense sector. The newly formed partnership is also significant on a national level, from the perspective of developing Finland’s defense sector and ensuring its security of supply.
“Valmet Automotive is known for its special expertise in industrial serial manufacturing and our ability to scale up our customers’ production capacity quickly while ensuring high quality. This capability, combined with the adaptive expertise of our personnel, forms the foundation of our new strategy that guides the expansion of our business into new industries. The newly agreed collaboration proves once again that our strategy is working. We are honored to offer our expertise to support Sisu Auto’s growth and enhance Finland’s national security of supply,” says Pasi Rannus, CEO of Valmet Automotive.
The employment impact of military vehicle production is significant. For instance, the amount of domestic labor for a single SISU GT series vehicle, which has approximately 65% domestic content, amounts to over one person-year. The additional capacity for up to 300 vehicles, which will be rapidly established in Uusikaupunki, is estimated to create more than 300 jobs annually.
“The launch of the partnership between Valmet Automotive and Sisu Auto is very welcome news also from the government’s perspective. The collaboration between two strong Finnish companies will fortify our defense sector and further enhance our security of supply. It will also have significant positive impacts on employment and exports,” says Matias Marttinen, Finnish Minister of Employment.
