The collaboration brings together Voi’s market-leading expertise in shared micromobility and eBikeLabs’ eBikeOS technology to research new ways of improving user experience and energy efficiency across future e-bike fleets.
eBikeLabs, the Grenoble-based pioneer in intelligent motor control software, today announced the launch of a joint research and development project with Voi, one of Europe’s leading micromobility providers.
The initiative will explore how advanced motor control intelligence can enhance e-bike rider comfort, performance consistency, and energy efficiency, paving the way for the next generation of sustainable, rider-centric micromobility.
A shared commitment to user experience and sustainability
Through this collaboration, the two companies aim to work on a joint R&D program aiming at the integration of eBikeLabs’ eBikeOS software platform, renowned for its fine control of assistance, regenerative braking, and adaptive energy management, with Voi’s own software ecosystem.
The primary goals of the R&D program are to:
- Enhance ride smoothness and safety, improving perceived comfort and control for riders;
- Extend e-bike range and optimize energy use, leveraging predictive algorithms and adaptive assistance tuning;
- Develop measurable insights into how software-based optimization can reduce total cost of ownership and environmental impact.
Leveraging proven research foundations
The collaboration builds on insights shared in eBikeLabs’ recent white paper, “Optimizing Fleet Performance with eBikeOS”, which outlines how intelligent motor control can significantly improve ride experience and yield up to 45% efficiency gains and improved component durability.
By combining these proven software foundations with Voi’s extensive operational expertise across more than 150,000 vehicles in 12 countries, the joint project will test and validate new solutions in real-world conditions.
“Partnering with eBikeLabs allows us to explore how next-generation motor intelligence can make our e-bikes even more efficient and enjoyable to ride. Improving autonomy and ride comfort directly supports our sustainability and user-experience goals.”
— Amit Sikka, Head of IoT and Vehicle Software, Voi
“Voi is a true pioneer in shared micromobility. This collaboration is an exciting opportunity to combine our software innovation with their deep operational insight to push the boundaries of performance, efficiency, and rider satisfaction, at scale.”
— Maël Bosson, Founder, eBikeLabs
A foundation for future innovation
The project will run through 2026, with teams from both companies collaborating across France and Sweden. Results from the first testing phase and simulation models are expected to be presented in early 2026.
Both partners emphasize that this R&D partnership marks an important milestone toward smarter, more sustainable fleets, and will inform the development of future product generations and deployment models.
