Voi Technology today released its Sustainability Report for 2024, demonstrating that shared micromobility is already one of the most sustainable ways to move in cities. With a 77 percent reduction in emission intensity since 2019, longer-lasting vehicles and a near-complete battery circularity, Voi shows that building a sustainable mobility service at scale is possible. Building on this strong foundation, the company is targeting net zero by 2035, a transformation that will reach across its entire value chain - from materials and product design to operations and partnerships.
The report confirms how Voi’s focus on vehicle longevity and circularity has already reshaped the industry. The latest vehicle generation has an estimated lifespan of more than ten years, while more than 98 percent of batteries remain in circulation through refurbishment and recycling. At the same time, Voi’s expanded e-bike portfolio ensures a broadened micromobility offering to meet the diverse needs of cities, users and mobility systems.
The report also includes a series of case studies that demonstrate how Voi’s approach is already delivering impact on the ground:
- In Oslo, the integration with public transport provider Ruter is helping people combine micromobility with metro and bus services, reducing reliance on cars.
- Voi’s battery refurbishment programme has created a near closed-loop system where more than 98 percent of batteries remain in circulation.
- The Voiager 3X scooter model, originally expected to last just 24 months, has now been kept in service for five years thanks to careful maintenance, proving how Voi can stretch the value of every vehicle.
- At the same time, the company is collaborating with students and innovators to shape the next generation of sustainable vehicle concepts.
Sustainability at the core
For Voi, sustainability is not a side project but the foundation of the business itself. Voi’s co-founder and CEO, Fredrik Hjelm, said:
“We’ve never been clearer about who we are and why we exist. Cities continue to play a critical role in the climate transition, and many remain committed to climate neutrality. Our vision is to help them achieve their goals; therefore, sustainability isn’t just a part of what we do – it’s at the core of the entire business. It guides every decision, every investment and every product we bring to the streets. And it means staying the course when it gets tough, especially when short-term pressures threaten long-term progress.”
Åsa Christiander, Head of Sustainability at Voi, said:
“Shared micromobility is already one of the most sustainable ways to move through a city. Our e-scooters and e-bikes are an important puzzle piece in building more livable cities, and the data shows that the positive trends continue year after year. We measure our impact with professionalism and transparency, so that cities and citizens can trust that what we promise is real. The progress we present this year is only the beginning. Together we can scale these solutions to transform urban mobility for generations to come.”
