Prolight secures two additional European patents for Psyros®
Prolight Diagnostics announces today that the European Patent Office (EPO) has issued “Intention to Grant” notifications for two separate patent applications relating to the Psyros single-molecule-counting technology.
The official notification date for both patents is 28 October, 2026.
“We are delighted to have received Intention to Grant notifications for two additional patents in Europe on the same day. Both patents are highly relevant to our ongoing product development with BRAINBox Solutions in traumatic brain injury (TBI),” said Ulf Bladin, CEO of Prolight,
The patents expand the scope of protection for the technology in two key areas – multiplexing and dynamic range. The first patent allows simultaneous measurement of more than one biomarker (multiplexing) without cross-reactivity between the measurements. The second patent describes methods for being able to measure biomarkers across very wide measurement ranges, without losing sensitivity. Both patents are complementary, and can be combined, to allow the measurement of multiple biomarkers at different concentration ranges, which is being implemented in the TBI product.
“These two patents demonstrate the significant versatility of the Psyros technology as a platform that can be adapted to a wide range of test types”, said Steve Ross, CTO of Prolight.
A number of formalities will now take place before the process is complete and both patents are formally granted by the EPO. They will have patent numbers EP4680964 and EP4680965.
Prolight have six families of patent applications relating to the Psyros single-molecule-counting technology. The first five families are currently in the national / regional phases in a range of territories worldwide. The sixth patent application entered the PCT (patent cooperation treaty) international phase in November 2025. Three patents have already been granted in Europe, two in Japan and one in Korea, while another is expected to be granted shortly in the US. Once the two new European patents are formally granted, the total number of granted Psyros patents in Europe will increase to five.
