Arctic Bioscience - Data on systemic inflammation published in Frontiers in Medicine

2026-08-05 08:06:11

Arctic Bioscience announces that new data on resolution of systemic inflammation in psoriasis and herring roe oil (HRO) has been published in the peer-reviewed journal Frontiers in Medicine. This was a post-hoc examination of blood-based markers of inflammation in patients who participated in the Haukeland psoriasis clinical trial (2019).

The analysis found that patients with mild-to-moderate psoriasis who received herring roe oil for 26 weeks showed significant reduction in several biomarkers of inflammation compared with placebo. These biomarkers can provide information about inflammation throughout the body. The findings also suggest that certain biomarkers may help identify which patients are most likely to benefit from treatment.

"Psoriasis is often thought of as a skin disease, but it can affect the whole body. These findings help us better understand what may be happening beneath the skin surface, and the research is part of our commitment to improving patients' health and quality of life", says Medical Director, Runhild Gammelsæter.

"Systemic inflammation can play an important role in psoriasis, even in patients with milder disease. The reductions observed in these inflammatory biomarkers suggest that herring roe oil may help support the body's natural processes for resolving inflammation. We look forward to publishing further data on these biomarkers from the larger HeROPA Phase 2b clinical trial on HRO350", concludes Gammelsæter.

HRO350 is an investigational medicinal product currently being developed as a potential new oral treatment for mild-to-moderate psoriasis, a large patient population that continues to need effective therapies with favorable safety and tolerability profiles. The data on systemic inflammation will be important in the ongoing planning of a potential Phase 3 clinical trial.

The research was carried out in collaboration with Dr. Kåre Steinar Tveit at Haukeland University Hospital in Norway.
