Carbiotix (publ) ("Carbiotix" or "Company") announces today that the Company has started a nine-month evaluation project with a GroPro (www.groproab.se), a company focused on the production of pea protein with its first production site based at Food Hills in Bjuv, Sweden. An initial evaluation study conducted in the first quarter of 2022 demonstrated positive results to produce a prebiotic product from a side-stream separated fibre product in the production of pea protein. This project will therefore evaluate, in detail, the technical and economic feasibility of scaling up prebiotic production using the same fibre. The project will serve as a business case GroPro and also for other plant-based protein manufacturers around the world looking for more value adding applications for their side-stream fibre products.

Fibre is today a side-stream product in the production of many vegan proteins and is typically sold by manufacturers as either an animal feed or for the production of other lower end food applications. Producing a higher-end prebiotic ingredient from this fibre is a much more appealing application for these side-stream products from a health, sustainability and financial perspective. Demonstrating a viable business case for the fibre in question will not only allow Carbiotix to potentially generate value through GroPro but also allow the Company to begin exploring other business opportunities from sidestream fibres generated from a global list of vegan protein manufacturers."
