GomSpace has joined SATSOL, a three-year Grand Solution project sponsored by Innovation Fund Denmark, with a total funding of MSEK 21.9 from which MSEK 3.3 for GomSpace contribution. The project is led by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and includes METR and Nice Visions as consortium partners.
SATSOL aims to address the supply constraints in space-qualified solar cells by establishing a Danish-centered production of low-cost, high-efficiency silicon photovoltaic modules for space applications. The project targets an alternative to gallium arsenide solar cells, which are subject to limited manufacturing capacity and long delivery times, and aims to deliver a validated solar module reaching ESA Technology Readiness Level 5 (TRL5) within the project period.
GomSpace participates as a project contributor, leveraging its expertise in the manufacturing and qualification of solar panels and power systems for nano- and microsatellites. The project supports GomSpace's strategic focus on resilient European space supply chains and scalable satellite technologies.
The SATSOL project has formally started with a consortium kick-off meeting hosted at GomSpace on Friday, 10 April.
