GomSpace signs SECUSAT contract with the European Space Agency (ESA) for the development of an advanced, security-enhanced generation of its NanoCom product line. The agreement, valued at EUR 1.2 million (13.2 MSEK), confirms ESA's confidence in GomSpace's technological leadership and marks a significant milestone in the evolution of secure satellite communications.
A breakthrough in space cybersecurity
SECUSAT will deliver evolved and more secure communication and onboard computer products, designed to meet the growing demand for resilient communications in increasingly contested space and terrestrial environments. The project is focused on integrating next-generation cryptographic and secure communication protocols, directly into GomSpace's space-proven subsystems.
By embedding advanced encryption and authentication mechanisms at the core of the communication layer, SECUSAT strengthens protection against cyber threats targeting space infrastructures and provides customers with end-to-end secure data transport, adaptable across both institutional and commercial missions.
A consortium of leading European partners
GomSpace will lead a consortium of international partners with strong expertise in cybersecurity, telecommunications and space systems. The team includes:
- DLR (Germany) - bringing research excellence and system-level security competencies
- Starion (Luxembourg) - contributing advanced cryptographic technologies
- KiviCore (Germany) - providing software-defined networking and protocol expertise
This collaboration reflects a shared European commitment to reinforce technological sovereignty in space and cyber-resilience.
Strengthening GomSpace's security-oriented portfolio
The SECUSAT initiative is a key element in GomSpace's long-term strategy to expand and consolidate its cybersecurity-focused product offering for satellite missions.
"SECUSAT is a decisive step for us" says Edgar Milic, Managing Director of GomSpace Luxembourg. "With this project, we are strengthening GomSpace's security-oriented portfolio and building the foundation for a new generation of cybersecurity-focused products for satellite missions. It enables us to support governmental and defense communications, protect critical infrastructure, enhance the resilience of commercial satellite services, and prepare for future lunar and deep-space missions that demand hardened communication links. Through SECUSAT, we position GomSpace firmly at the forefront of secure small-satellite communications."
