The 2.5-kilometre double track extension between Kubikenborg and Sundsvall Central Station is the first stage of a future double track extension between Gävle and Sundsvall. The new East Coast Line is an important part of the strategic infrastructure investment in Norrland that will connect northern Sweden with the rest of the world and increase capacity on one of Sweden's busiest single track railway lines.

The new tracks will be built to meet today's requirements of 25 tons axle load and speeds of up to 250 km/h. The project comprises both groundwork and construction, rock excavations, railway bridges, support structures and noise protection along the railway to increase safety and protect unauthorized persons from being on the tracks.

Double tracks on this stretch are expected to shorten travel times between Sundsvall and Stockholm and significantly improve the ability to run more trains, for both passenger and freight traffic. 

The project is a traditional contract. Construction is scheduled to start in the autumn of 2025 and the project should be completed in 2028.

The project will be order registered in the second quarter 2025.
