The med-tech company PolarCool AB (publ) continues to strengthen its presence in Swedish ice hockey, by signing a three-year agreement with IK Oskarshamn. The club becomes the third team in HockeyAllsvenskan, Sweden's second-tier league, to integrate PolarCap® into its concussion management protocols.
PolarCool develops and markets the product PolarCap®, which alleviates the effects of concussions. The primary users of PolarCap® include sports clubs, organizations, and facilities in contact sports such as ice hockey, rugby, football, and handball, but also other sports with an increased risk of concussion.
PolarCool continues to strengthen its presence in top European leagues and its home market in Sweden. The company has firmly established itself in Sweden's premier hockey division, the SHL, and is expanding into the second-tier league, HockeyAllsvenskan. With a new partnership agreement with IK Oskarshamn, PolarCool solidifies the PolarCap® System's foothold in Sweden's second tier, alongside current partners IF Björklöven and Kalmar HC, who are already utilizing the PolarCap® System.
IK Oskarshamn's Sport Director Oscar Alsenfeldt comments;
-With the advice of our team doctor, we have chose to prioritize providing PolarCap® to our players, in case they suffer concussions. As a former professional player I have personally seen how this serious injury can affect players in the form of long-term absences and ended careers. Anything that can reduce the risk of these serious long-term consequences is therefore very welcome.
PolarCool's CEO Erik Andersson comments;
-It is gratifying that IK Oskarshamn has chosen to provide PolarCap®. PolarCap® being used at all levels of sport is part of our long-term strategy, and the establishment in the Swedish second league is proof of this and shows the market potential for the product.
HockeyAllsvenskan is the second highest hockey league in Sweden and consists of a total of 14 teams. The agreement with IK Oskarshamn is strategically important, even if the financial significance of individual agreements is limited.
