Railway Metrics and Dynamics (RMD) recently signed an agreement with Hector Rail for the testing and evaluation of the "Digital Surveillance Camera System," commonly known as the rear-view camera. The tests will begin in October 2024 and continue through March 2025.
Hector Rail is an privately-owned railway company focused on providing efficient and environmentally friendly freight transport over long distances in Scandinavia. Founded in 2004, the company is headquartered in Sweden. Its operations include transporting goods such as timber products, steel, automotive components, and energy (like coal and biomass), as well as intermodal transport, where goods are transported in the same unit across different modes of transport, such as from truck to train.
Quick profitability
Shunting is an integral part of Hector Rail's freight transport operations on the railway. They are now looking to test RMD's rear-view camera to evaluate how it can eliminate dangerous tasks, such as when shunting personnel stand on the last footboard during reversing, and also to assess the economic benefits of faster, more efficient, and less personnel-intensive shunting work.
In connection with the agreement for testing and evaluation, Hector Rail has also requested a framework proposal covering all of RMD's services and products. This includes, among other things, PMU sensors for railcars, locomotives, and pantographs, as well as our AI and Machine Learning-based anomaly detection system and the dashboard for our "Train Management System."
- At Hector Rail, we always strive to be development-oriented and innovative. For us, it feels natural to evaluate cutting-edge technology when it comes to the digitalization of railways, says Juha Heikkinen, Head of Rolling Stock at Hector Rail.
Hector Rail primarily operates in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Germany, working with major industrial and logistics companies. The company owns a modern and powerful fleet of electric and diesel locomotives, tailored for long freight trains and diverse cargo needs. "In this way, Hector Rail aims to support a more sustainable transport sector and decrease the use of road transport."
