Railway Metrics and Dynamics has won the Swedish Transport Administration's procurement of a precision positioning service for railway vehicles. The Swedish Transport Administration estimates the value of the framework agreement at SEK 10.5 million per year in rental income.
"We are very happy about the news. This is positive for our market position and will contribute to safer rail traffic," says Jan Lindqvist, CEO of Railway Metrics and Dynamics.
RMD's product PMU (Performance Monitoring Unit) is suitable for the task of securing information about the train's geographical position.
The Swedish Transport Administration and SOS Alarm work together to ensure rapid and correct response to incidents that affect rail traffic. During rescue operations, the Swedish Transport Administration assists with map services, road names and GPS positions to make it easier for rescue resources to arrive quickly. Safety will also be increased in the event of wildlife accidents and, in the future, unattended crossings.
Integrated RTK-GPS for real-time positioning
The solution is based on the Performance Monitoring Unit which is integrated with RTK-GPS, which is the next level of precision in geographical measurements. The units will be installed in locomotives around Sweden and continuously transmit precision and position data to the Swedish Transport Administration's internal systems.
Railway Metrics and Dynamics will deliver the complete solution as a service, including product, installation, communication, management and support.
"The complete solution we offer combines high technical performance with easy installation. We look forward to delivering hardware and software," says Jan Lindqvist.
Contract period of three years plus extension
A framework agreement is now expected that will make it possible for train operators and other vehicle owners to call off the service. The framework agreement is valid from the signing of the agreement and until 2030-12-31. As an option, the Client has a unilateral right to extend the contract period until 2032-12-31 with existing contract terms.
The assignment is based on the railway companies renting a PMU for each locomotive they use in traffic, and the Swedish Transport Administration initially estimates an order value of approximately SEK 10.5 million per year in rental income.
