Redsense Medical AB has received an order for six Redsense Alarms from the CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System in the U.S. The devices will be used in the hospital's Acute Program, where the patient-to-nurse ratio is 2:1, to ensure patient and staff safety.
The hospital, established in 1916, is affiliated with the Cleveland Clinic and serves the four-states region of Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Louisiana with a full scope of health care services.
"We welcome CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System on board as a new customer. The Redsense Alarm solution will provide an extra layer of safety in the hemodialysis treatment performed there, giving nurses prompt and ample warning of any VND occurrences", says Patrik Byhmer, CEO of Redsense Medical AB.
About Venous Needle Dislodgement (VND) and the Redsense Alarm
Venous Needle Dislodgement (VND) is a life-threatening complication of hemodialysis treatment that occurs when the attachment of the venous needle to the vascular access falters for some reason. The incidence has been estimated to as often as 1 in 720 treatments. Due to the high blood flow rate during hemodialysis, an unaddressed VND can quickly result in severe blood loss or even death.
The Redsense Alarm is a patented solution that utilizes fiber optics technology and sterile, disposable sensor patches to detect any presence of blood, indicative of a potential VND. It immediately alerts caregivers and patients of the blood leakage so that the blood pump can be stopped as quickly as possible.
