"With his strong competence, solid experience and good relations both within and outside the bank, Américo is a natural successor to Jens in the role as SEB's Household Economist," says Jonas Söderberg, Head of division Corporate & Private Customers at SEB. "I am pleased that we now promote a representative for the millennial generation to a bigger assignment. It is also gratifying that it is an internal candidate, who has developed within the bank, that takes up the role."
As Household Economist, Américo Fernández will focus on everything from household finances and savings to pensions and the housing market and continue to monitor issues relating to small and medium-sized companies and the self-employed. Together with SEB's analysts within personal finance, Américo Fernández will regularly publish reports such as The Housing Price Indicator, The Savings Barometer, The Welfare Barometer and The Entrepreneur Indicator, as well as providing guidance and advice to both households and companies and engaging in important topics in the public debate. 
"I feel very honoured and look forward to the exciting mission of taking up the position as the bank's Household Economist,"  says Américo Fernández. "I hope to be able to help households and entrepreneurs navigate in an economic everyday life that has become much more complex in the past year due to the pandemic. And, not least, be a voice in the debate about important societal issues such as sustainable savings and equal personal finance - issues that are not just important for my own generation but also key elements for future generations."     
Américo Fernández is currently SEB's Corporate Economist and the bank's spokesperson in matters relating to small and medium-sized companies. In his role, Américo Fernández has analyzed and monitored developments from these companies' perspective and every month published The Entrepreneur Indicator, which focuses on the self-employed and their situation. Prior to that, Américo Fernández worked as an expert within personal and business finance at SEB and analyzed, among other things, trends in the business sector, developments in the surrounding world, and political decisions and their impact on households and companies.
Between 2016-2018, Américo Fernández worked as Desk Officer at the Ministry of Finance, where he analyzed and developed political reforms within the area of labour market policy. Prior to that, Américo Fernández worked at SEB, among other things as an analyst within personal finance. He holds a Master of Science in Economics from Linköping University.
