In a new assignment for the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) concerning part of the Södertörn Crosslink, Ramboll and Semcon will support efficiency and CO2-footprint reduction through electrification, digitalisation, automation and optimised handling of soil and rock masses.

The assignment covers the production of tender documents for design and construct contracts for the Djupdalen and Slätmossen interchanges. The interchanges will be part of the external crosslink that is being planned and built around Stockholm, from Haninge in the south to Täby in the north. In the assignment, which will start in December 2022 and run for about two years, Ramboll and Semcon will collaborate to meet the high demands on innovation and sustainability.

`It is essentially about finding new and sustainable solutions to reduce the CO2 footprint in everything from planning and construction to the operating phase,' says Karl Agestam, Department Manager at Ramboll.

`This is an interesting assignment in which Semcon can take the knowledge we have in areas such as "future mobility" and make a difference in important infrastructure projects,' says Magnus Carlsson, Area Manager, Software & Emerging Tech at Semcon. `We are glad that we, together with Ramboll, get to be involved in driving change in an exciting industry.'

High goals for sustainability and CO2 reduction
The assignment includes innovation management, chiefly in the areas of electrification, digitalisation, automation and optimised handling of soil and rock masses, but also in working environment.

`The innovation work is an area in which we see particularly great benefits in combining the expertise of both Ramboll and Semcon,' says Karl Agestam. `It will be very interesting to develop new ideas and solutions together. At Ramboll, we are used to working with large infrastructure projects, and believe that Semcon can complement us well with their experience in automation within several different sectors.'

The innovation management will be the guiding theme throughout the project in order to find opportunities to improve the project's implementation from various sustainability perspectives.

Set goals for the project include:
  •     no local emissions of greenhouse gases from vehicles and machinery
  •     at least 50% of the total energy consumption from vehicles and machinery must consist of electricity from renewable energy sources
  •     reduced climate impact from materials
  •     all crushed aggregate must come from contracts within the programme
  •     fewer than four accidents per million hours worked
