Oslo, Norway - February 29, 2024 - Smartoptics, a leading provider of optical
networking solutions, today announced that Peru IX and PIT Colombia, two
internet exchanges under the same ownership, have upgraded to 400G, becoming
among the first to do so in Latin America. The Smartoptics solution was chosen
for its flexibility and small data center footprint.

Peru IX and PIT Colombia are two internet exchanges under the same management
team and with the same commitment to improving internet infrastructure in their
respective countries. Peru IX sought a cost-effective way to interconnect two
data centers in Lima with a diverse fiber path. The solution chosen is centered
around the Smartoptics DCP-404 muxponder and DCP-1203 transponder paired with an
open line system and 400G optics. This ensures high capacity and low latency
while maximizing fiber utilization and minimizing rack space requirements.

"Smartoptics understands our needs well, proposing and delivering a highly cost
-effective and flexible solution. We appreciate that they have Spanish-speaking
staff, don't try to lock us in, and have a clear roadmap so that we can plan
ahead for future deployments. In our analysis, Smartoptics was the best solution
we could find to deliver 400G QSFP-DD based transponders and muxponders. I'm
confident that other Latin American network operators and IXPs will see the
value of upgrading to 400G," says Salvador Bertenbreiter, co-founder and CEO of
Peru IX and PIT Colombia.

PIT Colombia also runs the same type of Smartoptics solution in the capital
region of Bogota, where the internet exchange has deployed 400ZR+ for high
capacity and flexibility over a long distance to interconnect two data centers
with link redundancy.

"At Smartoptics, our solutions are future-proof and we have the flexibility to
accommodate a variety of use cases and changes in operating conditions. As a
result, there is no need to wait to upgrade capacity until the last second. Peru
IX and PIT Colombia are leading the way, showing Latin America a simple and
effective path to 400G with Smartoptics. Their innovative approach will surely
be a source of inspiration for others in the region," says Armando Carmona,
Business development director LATAM, Smartoptics.

About Peru IX
Peru IX is the leading neutral Internet Exchange Point in Peru. It is a
distributed IXP with over 20 PoPs in Lima, Peru most of them connected to Nx100G
or Nx400G. Its Lima IXP currently moves over 2 Tbps of traffic and has become a
key player to ensure high capacity, low latency and low-cost per bit
interconnections in Peru. It also operates decentralized IXPs in 4 cities,
helping to reduce the cost and reduce latency of Internet in Peru. For more
information visit https://www.peruix.net

About PIT Colombia
PIT Colombia is a decentralized neutral IXP with operations in 5 cities of
Colombia: Bogota, Medellin, Cali, Barranquilla, and Bucaramanga. It's redefining
the peering ecosystem in Colombia by creating new interconnection HUBs which
allow super high speed, up to 400 Gbps, low latency and reduced cost
interconnections in major cities of Colombia. For more information visit
