SBNOR: Building a strong national savings bank
2026-10-30 07:00:00
Sparebanken Norge reports a pre-tax profit of NOK 2,138 million in the third
quarter of 2026. The return on equity (ROE) is 12.7% while return on equity
adjusted for merger effects (ROTE) amounted to 14.5% for the quarter.
Year-to-date, return on equity is 14.2%, while return on equity adjusted for
merger-related effects is 16.2%.
Strong lending growth in both the corporate and retail market
Gross lending to customers amounted to NOK 513.2 billion at the end of the third
quarter. Lending to retail customers increased by 1.4% during the quarter, while
lending to corporate customers increased by 2.2%.
The bank is on track with the expansion into new market areas and, during the
quarter, completed key appointments of advisors and managers. Over the course of
the next 12 months, Sparebanken Norge will establish a presence in two
additional places: Mo i Rana and Trondheim.
"We are delivering another quarter of strong loan growth. Growth in both the
retail and corporate segments remains robust and reflects focused efforts over
time. At the same time, we are seeing the new market areas start to generate
growth, which is encouraging for the growth journey the Bank is now on," says
CEO Jan Erik Kjerpeseth.
Strong cost control despite merger-related costs and investments in new market
areas
Operating expenses as a percentage of net operating income were 31.8 (29.4) % in
the quarter and 31.8 (28.4) % year-to-date. Adjusted for merger-related costs,
the cost-to-income ratio year-to-date would have been approximately 31.0 %.
"We have maintained strong cost control in 2026, despite a year characterized by
significant merger-related costs and limited realization of cost synergies. The
successful technical merger completed in October 2026, together with workforce
adjustments, will significantly accelerate the realization of synergies heading
into 2027," says Kjerpeseth.
Strong capital position provides room for both growth and dividends going
forward The CET1 capital ratio was
18.1 (18.1) % at the end of the quarter. At quarter-end, the Bank`s capital
buffer above its capital target was approximately 2.2 percentage points.
"We are a well-capitalised bank with a conservative loan portfolio and low risk
profile. Over time, we aim to operate with capital efficiency, and at present we
have the capacity both to achieve our ambitious growth targets and to offer
competitive dividends," says Kjerpeseth.
